Bagels are coming our way

The bagel world of Bruegger’s Bagel Bakery will be available in Ames soon after the first of the year, officials said.
The new bagel shop will be located at 539 Lincoln Way beside Long John Silver’s Seafood Shoppe and Hollywood Video, general manager Regina Grage said.
The delicatessens at Bruegger’s include gourmet soups and desserts, deli sandwiches on bagels, a variety of cream cheeses, office pack and party specials, coffee, juices and other drinks.
Bruegger’s is considered a healthy alternative with different kinds.
The bagels have about 280 calories each with about two grams of fat. There are four different light cream cheeses available.
“We bake our bagels fresh all day and there are no preservatives in our bagels,” she said.
“We usually have three hot varieties [of bagels] at all times. Other places bake their bagels once for the whole day.”
Grage said the location was chosen to appeal to the Ames community as a whole.
“We picked the location where the whole community has access. If it’s successful, however, we are considering a Campustown location,” she said.
There is a Bruegger’s Bagel Bakery located in Iowa City’s Pedestrian Mall, the University of Iowa equivalent to Campustown, which has done well.
In fact, “It was one of the first Bruegger’s in the nation,” Grage said.
The general manager position is the only one in place as of now. Bruegger’s is in the hiring process for other positions.
The bakery’s hours are set at 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
