Iowan looks to solve problems as president

One Iowan will appear on the ballot next week running for the top seat of President of the United States. Iowa’s own John Hagelin is the Natural Law Party’s choice for the next president.

A Harvard-trained quantum physicist, Hagelin has spent most of his years as a scientist at several different institutions. His physics research has included working at European Laboratory for Particle Physics and Stanford Linear Accelerator.

Hagelin’s relationship with Iowa began while establishing a doctoral program in fundamental particle physics at the Maharishi International University in Fairfield, Iowa.

Entering politics in 1992, Hagelin was chosen to be the Natural Law Party candidate for president.

Hagelin said in a press release this about entering the political arena:

“My area of expertise is elementary particles and the origins of the universe. I would be content to study that for the rest of my life, but there are serious societal problems and that’s what’s drawing me out.”

Hagelin’s running mate, Mike Tompkins, has also been involved in politics. According to his biography, Tompkins has worked with the government for 17 years to introduce new prevention-orientation programs to solve America’s critical problems.

Tompkins also ran as the Natural Law Party’s vice presidential candidate in 1992.

He currently serves as Associate Director of the Institute of Science, Technology and Public Policy.

Tompkins is also a direct descendent of President John Adams and President John Quincy Adams

According to the Natural Law Party platform, the party is rooted in having conflict-free politics, prevention-oriented government and solutions to America’s problems designed to bring national life into harmony with natural law.

Some of these programs include health care, crime prevention, lower taxes, energy conservation, improve education and reduce government waste.

“In our information-based economy, it’s creativity and intelligence that drive economic growth,” Hagelin said in a press release.

“The Natural Law Party’s educational programs to develop full creativity and intelligence, together with a balanced budget and a low flat tax will supercharge the economy and provide high quality jobs for all Americans.”
