Students finding comfort in counseling

Counseling isn’t just for those with serious problems anymore.

Last year, nearly 11,000 Iowa State students were counseled in both a group and an individual basis or in a crisis situation at the Student Counseling Service on the third floor of the Student Services Building. Nearly 14,000 student contacts were involved in the Outreach program, said Director of Student Counseling Services Terry Mason.

The counseling center has 24 counselors available to provide assistance. There are also 21 peer educators located in both Student Counseling and the Career Exploration Center to help with career choices and outreach programs. Outreach programs are educational programs given across campus on a variety of different topics.

Counseling is free. “We have one of the most renowned counseling services in the country,” Mason said.
