The Center Court basketball league championship took place on Sunday, and it was an entertaining game for all spectators.

The final game of the tournament pitted Happy Joe’s against Sigler Printing and Publishing.

The entire game was a see-saw battle, with each team taking turns holding the lead. Sigler finally pulled out a 94-90 lead in a one- minute overtime.

The game also enjoyed the match-up of two current Iowa State starters.

Sigler’s Jacy Holloway, and Happy Joe’s Shawn Bankhead.

Happy Joe’s was at a disadvantage the entire game, due to the fact that they only had six players available. However, Happy Joe’s did jump out to an early lead in the first half.

Sigler fought back and later made a 14-point run to take the lead.

There were consistent performances from both teams during the game.

Bankhead was his usual trash talking, team motivating self, while adding 25 points, before fouling out in overtime. Scott Barnes scored 30 and “Lefty” Moore added 23 to Happy Joe’s effort.

For Sigler, Kevin Sams tallied 30 points and Fred Brown added 22.

Holloway seemed to rise to the occasion and help spark his team to victory with great passing, consistent defense and scoring 20 points.

Despite the win, Holloway was not impressed with his team’s performance.

“We basically played the worst we have played all summer,” Holloway said. “We just wore them down. They only had six players.”

Holloway expressed the relief of just playing for fun, in the league. “It’s a chance to run up and down the floor and enjoy basketball with out the pressures of the season,” Holloway said.
