A 16-year-old was charged in connection with a hit-and-run accident that hospitalized an Iowa State faculty member on April 16, officials said.

The juvenile, who is an Ames High School student, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and failing to stop and obey traffic control laws, said Jerry Stewart, assistant director of ISU Department of Public Safety.

Gloria Cain, 48, an academic adviser in the computer science department, was hit near the Molecular Biology Building. She suffered multiple injuries to her head and extremities. She was first taken to Mary Greeley Medical Center before being transported to the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Hospital officials said Cain was in fair condition on Tuesday.
