7 arrested for evergreen theft

Seven Iowa State fraternity members were arrested by the Story County Sheriff’s Office for taking a large evergreen tree from a residence in rural Story County, Monday.

The men, Stewart P. Bevis, 20, a junior in business; Cory C. Lundgren, 18, a freshman in agriculture business; Jeff A. Gnade, 19, a freshman in general undergraduate studies; Scott J. Peck, 20, a sophomore in history; Colby G. Richardson, 20, a sophomore in journalism and mass communication; Michael E. Wordon, 18, a freshman in business; and Christopher D. Ellsberry, 19, are all members of Adelante Fraternity, 318 Welch Ave. Ellsberry is not an ISU student.

The men were charged with third degree theft. They were released on their own recognizance after making initial court appearances Tuesday.

Theft in the third degree is an aggravated misdemeanor with a maximum penalty of two years in jail or a $5,000 fine.
