KUSR stops broadcasting

Iowa State’s student-run radio station, KUSR, went off the air Wednesday because of complications with its broadcasting license.

Rian Harkins, the station’s manager, is working with ISU officials and the Federal Communications Commission to resolve the problem. Concerns have been raised about the station not operating under the conditions of its FCC license.

“Some officials feel that KUSR may not be operating as a legal station at 91.5 megahertz,” Harkins said in a prepared statement.

Harkins said it is unclear when KUSR will resume operations.

KUSR operates under a broadcast license issued to Residence Associations Broadcasting, Inc. The station has been in operation under various call letters for 46 years.
