28 Cyclones to wrestle in Omaha this weekend

28 Iowa State wrestlers are competing this Saturday and Sunday in Omaha, Nebraska.

Ten of them are wrestling in the U23 Nationals and 18 are in the UWW Junior Nationals.

Both tournaments are being held at the CHI Health Center in Omaha.

The winner of each division, receives a bid to the 2021 Senior World Team Trials and, if age eligible, the 2021 Junior World Team Trials.

U23 Nationals

Headlining Iowa State’s entrants in the U23 Nationals tournament is Big 12 champion redshirt senior Ian Parker.

Parker, in addition to Iowa State’s redshirt senior Todd Small and redshirt sophomore Charlie Klepps, are wrestling in the 61 kg (134.4 lbs) weight class along with 28 other wrestler from across the country. 

Iowa State’s redshirt freshman Ramazan Attasauov and redshirt sophomore Cory Cabanban are two of 37 wrestlers competing in the 57 kg (125.6 lbs) weight class.

Redshirt freshman Isaac Judge is one of 41 wrestlings competing at 70 kg (154.3 lbs).

Redshirt juniors DeMichael Franklin and Mac Southard are wrestling in the 79 kg (174.1) weight class, along with 32 other wrestlers.

Rounding out the Cyclones U23 Nationals entrants are redshirt Gannon Gremmel and redshirt sophomore Francis Duggan, who are wrestling in the 125 kg (275.5 lbs) weight class.

36 more wrestlers are competing in the 125 kg weight class.

UWW Junior Nationals

Iowa State has 18 UWW Juniors tournamenent entrants.

Iowa State redshirt freshmen Aden Reeves and Caleb Fuessley are wrestling in the 57 kg (125.6 lbs) weight class (90 total wrestlers registered) in the juniors tournament. 

2021 recruit, Conor Knopick is also wrestling in this weight class at this tournament.

73 wrestlers are registered to competed in the 61 kg (134.4 lbs) weight class, including five Cyclones.

Freshmen Caleb Lemmons, Jacob Perez-Eli, Zach Redding, Drew Woodley and Noah Nemer, are the five Cyclones wrestlers competing in the 61 kg class.

In the 65 kg weight class (143.3 lbs) Iowa State’s freshmen Cam Robinson and Ben Monroe, as well as redshirt freshman Andrew Flora are three of 71 wrestlers competing.

Redshirt freshman Carter Schmidt is Iowa State’s lone wrestler (out of the 62 registered wrestlers from around the country) in the 70 kg (154.3 lbs) weight class in this tournament. 

Iowa State’s redshirts sophomore’s Grant Stotts and Brandon Tessau, compete in 74 kg (163.1 lbs) weight class with 43 other registered wrestlers. 

FloWrestling listed (11/9) Iowa State’s Anthony Zach on its list of registered wrestlers for the 74 kg weight class in the junior tournament and Stotts for the 74 kg class in U23, but Iowa State (11/10) didn’t list Zach as wrestling and listed Stotts as wrestling in the 74 kg weight class in the Juniors.

Redshirt freshmen Nolan Harsh and Caleb Long, as well as redshirt sophomore Tate Battani, are three Cyclone wrestlers competing in the 79 kg (174.1 lbs) weight class along with 53 other wrestlers.

Rounding out the Cyclones entrants are freshman Cody Fisher and redshirt sophomore Joel Shapiro.

Shapiro is wrestling in the 86 kg (189.5 lbs) weight class with 42 other wrestlers and Fisher is in the 92 kg (202.8 lbs) weight class with 20 other wrestler.

When will the wrestling happen?

Wrestling starts at 9 a.m. and ends at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday with a break between 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Both tournaments conclude with wrestling beginning on Sunday at 9 a.m. and ending at 5 p.m. with a break between 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
