Iowa State Hockey gets revenge on Indiana Tech

After taking their first loss of the season on Friday, the Cyclones fought back and picked up a win on Saturday. The Warriors from Indiana Tech opened the scoring 7:38 into the first period with a goal from Matej Kransy with the assists going to Axel Low and Daniel Spannar. The first period would go on without another score and end with a Warriors 1-0 lead.

Iowa State bounced back with two power-play goals in the 2nd frame. The first came from Ryan Zimmerman assisted by Ryan Neslon and Payton McSharry. While the 2nd goal of the frame came from Everett Bestland with Justin Paulson getting the assist. 

Heading into the 3rd frame, the Cyclones boasted a 2-1 lead. The lead only lasted about 3 minutes into the period as Matej Kransy and Cam Chabot assisted Zach Bennet in finding the net, tying the game at 2. The rest of the game fell to Iowa State’s control however, as they scored 3 unanswered goals to round out the game. The first goal came from Stuart Pearson with Matty Moran getting the assist. Zimmerman scored his 2nd goal of the night with Joey Marcuccilli picking up the assist. The final goal of the evening giving the ‘Clones a 5-2 lead, came from Payton McSharry, while Jacob Schuldt got the assist. The Cyclones would hold onto the lead and win the game by the 5-2 score. 

Iowa State holds a record of 5-1 to begin their 2020 season, and will look to improve that next weekend.
