Iowa COVID-19 cases quickly approach 100,000

The Iowa Department of Public Health reported a total of 977 new coronavirus cases since the state’s last tally at 10 a.m. Thursday.

The total number of cases has now broken 97,000. The overall positivity rate is at 11.7 percent.

An additional 14 deaths have been reported, bringing the state’s total death count to 1,433.

In Story County, 18 more cases have been reported. No new deaths have been reported in the county. The death toll remains at 17.

Iowa’s number of hospitalized individuals has been increasing, with 77 COVID-19 patients being admitted in the last 24 hours. There are currently 461 hospitalized COVID-19 patients, 104 of them being in the ICU.
