Women’s basketball coach Bill Fennelly announced after Iowa State’s exhibition victory over Winona State that freshman guard Maddie Frederick and freshman forward Morgan Kane will redshirt the 2018-19 season.

Fennelly said that he presented the option to both players to redshirt the season, and the decision was ultimately made by both players after consulting with their families.

Frederick, who hails from Tipp City, Ohio, scored six points over two exhibition games for the Cyclones with all of them coming in Iowa State’s game against Southwest Baptist. Kane, from West Jordan, Utah, scored 16 points over two games and shot a total of 8-for-9 from the field during the exhibition season.

Iowa State begins its season on Friday against Niagara. Tip-off is scheduled for noon at Hilton Coliseum.
