Iowa State moves to 3-0 with win over Texas Southern

Iowa State took care of business against Texas Southern Monday night, knocking off the Tigers by a final score of 85-73 at Hilton Coliseum.

The Cyclones (3-0, 0-0 Big 12) dominated for much of the first half against Texas Southern (1-2, 0-0 SWAC). Iowa State was led by freshman guard Talen Horton-Tucker and redshirt senior Marial Shayok, both with 26 points in the game.

Horton-Tucker led Iowa State in the first half, dropping 16 points. He went 5-of-7 from the floor with all of his shots coming beyond the 3-point line.

Shayok added 15 points in the first half while fellow redshirt senior Nick Weiler-Babb had six points, eight rebounds and four assists. Iowa State took a 48-35 lead into the break.

Texas Southern brought it back to within nine in the second half, but Iowa State maintained a lead throughout and closed the door for the win. Weiler-Babb finished with 13 points, 13 rebounds and five assists.
