After Dark books “Stranger Things” actor
The Memorial Union will be filled with crafts, comedy, bingo and karaoke on Friday, Aug. 26 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. for this year’s first After Dark event.
Comedy juggler and America’s Got Talent contestant, Ivan Pecel, will start off the night with a 9 p.m. performance in the Great Hall. Actor Eduardo Franco, best known for his roles in “Booksmart” and “Stranger Things,” will be the guest of the moderated discussion at 11 p.m.
Christian Grensteiner, special events co-director of Student Union Board, chose Franco as the guest in the main event because of his current impact and relevance in the media.
“We usually get a talent agency that sends in celebrities that would be interested in coming to college campuses,” Grensteiner said. “I was going through the names and I was not exactly thrilled about all of them, and then I found Eduardo Franco. I’m really excited for this first After Dark, and I feel like other students are too because we have someone who is big in pop culture right now.”
During this hour-long discussion, Franco will be asked about his early career, his time on “Stranger Things” and other films he has been a part of. Pecel’s time will be a bit different, as he will be performing instead of being interviewed.
“He’s a comedy juggler, and he was on “America’s Got Talent,” “Comedy Central” and The Tonight Show. He’s done a lot of stuff with juggling, and it’s just hilarious, honestly,” Grensteiner said.
Along with various forms of entertainment, After Dark is a place for students to come together and gives freshman a chance to meet new people.
Grensteiner anticipates a line outside of the Great Hall for Franco’s event, as well as the Great Hall’s 660-person capacity to be reached. After Dark is free to all students and their guests.
