The Cyclones are back in action again this weekend, this time in Ames.

Drake, Iowa, Saint Louis, TCU and Kansas headline some of the competition coming to Ames on Saturday. The Cyclones are coming off of a very impressive weekend in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Senior Nehemia Too finished fourth in the mile and also broke the school record with a time of 3:58. Chad Johnson also showed out in the mile, posting a sub-four-minute time that put him third all-time in Iowa State history.

Director Jared Sudbury reflected on the Razorback Invitational, saying he felt the team had solid performances in a lot of areas.

“We saw a lot of consistent performances in all events, which we love to see,” Sudbury said.

Competing in the 3,000m race on Saturday are juniors Madelynn Hill and Dana Feyen, who both produced strong times for the Cyclones. Feyen came in sixth after posting a time of 9:22.79. Hill finished the race in ninth place overall with a time of 9:34.30. The Cyclones placed 5 athletes in the top 20 in a heavily competitive race.

“I think anytime this sport continues to get personal bests and school records, it’s a good sign,” Sudbury said. “It definitely bodes well as we head into the postseason. Big 12’s and ultimately those athletes that qualify for nationals get a chance to see how their times really stack up in a true race setting.”

As we see athletes continue to push each other to help one another strive for their personal best, it shows what kind of team the Cyclones are.

“I think it’s part of the culture,” Sudbury said. “If you have an event group that has a lot of good athletes, not only in the conference but nationally, it will help everyone elevate during the performance and their confidence rises too.”

Cailie Logue continues to improve on her times after the redshirt season last year. She clocked a 4:37:44 for 10th place and her season-best.

Events for The Iowa State Classic will kick off at noon Saturday, at Lied Recreation Center.
