Following Wednesday night’s performance from American rock band, The Brevet, Iowa State’s Maintenance Shop will follow up with another night of live music. Canadian folk duo Ocie Elliott is headed to the Iowa State campus to perform live at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Memorial Union’s Maintenance Shop.
After joining forces in 2017 under the name Ocie Elliott, Jon Middleton and Sierra Lundy have helped shape the modern definition of folk music. The group released their debut project, a self-titled EP in 2017, and never looked back.
The duo soon gained traction in the industry after their song, “Run to You,” was selected to be included in an episode of “Grey’s Anatomy” in 2019. Two years later, their song “The Less We Know,” from the Slow Tide EP, was chosen for a second Grey’s Anatomy episode in 2022.
Ocie Elliott’s emotional soul music has earned them a fanbase and recognition throughout the industry. In 2022, the duo garnered a JUNO Awards nomination for Breakthrough Group of the Year. The group has now reached over 4 million monthly listeners on Spotify and their hit song, “Down by the Water,” has surpassed 53 million plays.
“To me, this music feels like the remains of going through something heavy, or the aftermath of strong emotion,” Ocie Elliott member Sierra Lundy stated in an interview with Brooklyn Made. “Since we’ve been through so much, all of these songs are so powerful to us.”
