Student Government approved $99,512 of funding for student engagement and confirmed new leadership positions during Wednesday night’s Senate meeting.
“This budget is primarily a student engagement programming budget and to cover student organization systems and things like that,” Kevin Merrill, assistant director for student organizations, leadership and service, said. “This is for students to seek involvement opportunities to join student organizations, to have leadership and service opportunities.”
The budget will fund promotional items, student organization systems improvements, retreats, programs, conferences, workshops and Iowa State leadership experience. It passed unanimously.
Ella Aiono-Dimoff, a junior in political science, was sworn in as an LAS senator. She cited previous experience as an LAS student ambassador and a tutor for the ISU athletics department.
“I admire the hard work that student government does to better the university every single day,” Aiono-Dimoff said. “I would love to be able to contribute and give back to the university through my actions as a senator.”
The Senate also confirmed Daniel Piller, a junior in computer science, as the new IT director. When asked if he had any feedback or changes he would make to the current website, he noted a lack of sections and color.
“One idea I had off the bat was just maybe to incorporate colors to divide it into more coherent sections as you’re scrolling down,” Piller said. “I think that’s something that Iowa State University did with their overall official website, and I think that’s something that would be cool if we could incorporate into our website.”
Sen. Hemanthsai Peddasani, a sophomore in computer engineering, was seated on the rules committee.
Additionally, the following at-larges were seated on the sustainability committee:
- Emily Maliszewski, a senior in environmental science
- Olivia Miller, a senior in environmental science
- Myer Loeb, a senior in community and regional planning
- Emelia Traina, a senior in environmental science
- Jaden Hansen, a senior in environmental science
