Student Government sat senators to numerous committees and approved funding for several clubs during Wednesday’s meeting.
The Water Polo Club had $2,750 of funding approved for their registration fees to the Collegiate Water Polo Association.
The Muslim Student Association was also approved for $150.80 in funding. The association will use the funding to cover reservation fees for a private event at Beyer Hall.
The Iowa State Blood Drive requested $1,260 in funding to rent out Stephens Auditorium. The Senate tabled the bill for the finance committee to confirm before approving funding.
The Senate also approved $459.69 for the Equestrian Club – Western Team. The funding will go towards travel costs.
Additionally, $1,283.79 in funding was approved for the Men’s Rugby Team. The funds will go towards registration and insurance with USA Rugby.
Other business
The following senators were seated on the events committee. The events committee organizes events such as the Senate’s annual expo:
- Sen. Noah Kammeyer, a sophomore in political science
- Sen. Muhammad Azhan, a doctoral candidate in chemistry
- Sen. Nathan Kwiatkowski, a junior in aerospace engineering
- Sen. Kathleen Pelzer, a senior in financial counseling and planning
“My financial counseling major plays into events more than you expect,” Pelzer said. “It makes me more financially conscious whenever I’m planning events. I’m very comfortable planning a wide range of events, from small to large, and with a big or small budget.”
Hannah Everhart, a senior in agricultural communication, was also seated as an at-large member of the local affairs committee. The local affairs committee develops nonpartisan initiatives that connect the university student body with the community of Ames.
The following students were confirmed as at-large members of the public relations committee. The public relations committee maintains the image of the Senate:
- Benjamin Pellizzari, a senior in business analytics
- Shanee Saidu, a sophomore in public relations
- Myles Curtis, a junior in management information systems
“With my background being a [management information systems] major, and vice president of recruitment for my fraternity, I have a strong passion for using digital tools to connect with people and sharing impactful stories,” Curtis said. “I believe effective communication is the key to building community, and I’m eager to contribute by promoting the work of the Student Government and engaging more students.”
Additionally, the following students were confirmed as election commissioners:
- Lakshmi Shastry, a freshman in chemical engineering
- Divija Dhanwan, a junior in aerospace engineering
- Grace Cable, a sophomore in political science
- Aliya Yanga, a sophomore in public relations
- Luv Saini, a freshman in entrepreneurship
The next Senate meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Memorial Union Campanile Room.
