The Cyclones will travel to Morgantown this weekend to take on the West Virginia Mountaineers. This is a guide to the West Virginia town for all the die-hard Iowa State fans who will be flying or driving to see the Cyclones win.
Morgantown has a population of about 70,000 people, with 26,000 being students at West Virginia University. The town has been growing and developing over the past 20 years and is ranked as one of the best small cities in the country.
If you were lucky enough to get tickets to the game, the Mountaineer Field at Milan Puskar Stadium and its 60,000 seats and turf field will greet you. Keep in mind, while the stadium may seem intimidating for out-of-towners, the stadium’s design was inspired by Jack Trice Stadium, which opened a few years before West Virginia’s.
When you arrive in town and need to get around to tailgates, your hotel or to visit friends, the Mountain Line Transit system will be your friend. With 24 bus routes running, there is bound to be a helpful line to hop on. There is a 75 cent charge for each ride (keep in mind drivers will not make change). Downtown Morgantown is a bustling district with 100 retailers, 35 restaurants, cafes, clubs and taverns, an 88-room hotel and over 1,675 public parking places.
One of the most popular places in Morgantown to grab a bite or a beer is the Mountain State Brewing Company. The restaurant and bar is one of the top-rated and most affordable places in the city on Tripadvisor.
For entertainment outside of the game, try a visit to the West Virginia University Core Arboretum forest hike. With over three miles of forested foot trails, visitors can get some activity in and see the natural sights of West Virginia while they visit for the game.

It features the Waterfront Place Hotel and Event Center, restaurants, steakhouses and access to more than 10 miles of paved fun in the Caperton Trail and Decker’s Creek Trail systems.”
