The Dot, a new cafe and coffee shop, has opened in west Ames near the corner of Dotson Drive and Lincoln Way. The Dot will offer coffee, breakfast and lunch in a self-described warm and inviting atmosphere.
The Dot is unique among Ames breakfast and lunch hotspots because it features menu items that are sourced from other Ames small businesses. The menu itself is extensive and caters to a variety of dietary needs and preferences, including plant-based diets. It also features fresh, seasonally changing dishes.
Dawn Budd, the owner of The Dot, is excited to share a menu that uses local products.
“We definitely have something for everyone… We’ve partnered with Morning Bell Coffee Roasters (downtown Ames) to develop the perfect roast for The Dot,” Budd wrote to the Daily. “It’s bright with a smooth caramel finish. We’re also partnered with Little Woods Herbal Teas (located in downtown Ames) and Renn’s Syrups (located in Nevada) to create a robust beverage menu.”

Budd wants the Iowa State community to know that The Dot welcomes students and hopes to become a part of their routine by creating food and drink options that will work well in a busy schedule.
“We will also offer grab-and-go breakfast and lunch offerings perfect for students and ISU staff on their way to campus, as well as a comfortable place to study or hang out with friends or family,” Budd wrote.
The Dot is also open to being a go-to spot for hosting private parties, fundraisers and other events during the evenings. To find out more about the cafe, visit their website or their Facebook page. There are regular updates and posts about menu changes, hours and anything else customers could need to know about The Dot.
The Dot will be open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday for you to come check it out!
