On Friday, Iowa State soccer prepared to face Texas Christian University, but there was something different about the Cyclones’ uniforms.

The Cyclone uniforms were equipped with touching memorials of former Iowa State student-athlete Celia Barquin Arozamena, who was found dead on Coldwater Golf Links golf course in Ames last week.

The team named Barquin Arozamena an honorary captain for the remainder of the season. To commemorate this, the players wore captain’s sleeves on their legs, and they also wore a patch with her initials on their shirt sleeve.

Barquin Arozamena was a gifted golfer for Iowa State and her death has been getting national attention.
