Ames police are investigating a homicide after a man was fatally shot Thursday evening on South 5th Street.
Officers arrived at the scene around 6:30 p.m. after reports of an emergency and found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to Mary Greeley Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
“We’ve not released the name of the victim yet,” Major Jason Tuttle said in an interview with the Daily. “We’ll meet with some family tonight, so I expect that would happen here in the next couple of days.”
There is no ongoing threat to the public, according to an Ames Police media release Saturday.
“[It’s] still a very active investigation,” Tuttle said. “We’ll continue to get tips that we’re following up and doing interviews with individuals, so it’s very active. We haven’t made an arrest yet or anything, but we’ll continue to continue to work at it.”
No details about the victim or possible suspects have been released. However, police have spoken with “a number of people” who have provided information, Tuttle said.
