Vigil to be held for slain Iowa State student Celia Barquín Arozamena

A vigil will be held in remembrance of former Iowa State women’s golfer Celia Barquín Arozamena at 7 p.m. on Wednesday on the north side of the Campanile.

Barquín Arozamena, senior in civil engineering, was found dead at Coldwater Golf Links on Monday morning.

Collin Daniel Richards, 22, has since been charged with first-degree murder.

The vigil for Barquín Arozamena is open to all, according to university relations. Friends of Barquín Arozamena, as well as fellow students, will share reflections of what she meant to them.

There will also be an opportunity to write messages to Barquín Arozamena’s family in Spain.

The death of Barquín Arozamena has rocked the Iowa State community, as well as the sports world at both a national and international level.

Barquina Arozamena, on Saturday, was to be honored for Cyclones’ Female Athlete of the Year. Instead, the stadium will wear yellow in her honor and hold a moment of silence.

Football players, too, will wear helmet decals with her initiations — CBA.
