No. 53 Iowa State lost 4-2 to No. 33 TCU at home Sunday. The Cyclones are now 9-7 overall and 3-5 in conference.
The Horned Frogs added another win against Iowa State. With the win, TCU is 9-3 all-time versus the Cyclones.
TCU was first on the board in doubles. Helena Narmont and Yu-Chin Tsai beat Cyclone freshmen Julia Camblor and Gabriela Felix 6-1 on the No. 2 court.
Raquel Caballero and Tomi Main clinched doubles for the Horned Frogs. They topped freshman Mari Paz Alberto Vilar and sophomore Valeska San Martin Ramirez 6-3 on the third court.
In singles, the Cyclones came out swinging. In a competitive contest, Camblor edged Caballero 6-4, 7-5 on court No. 2.
Vilar gave Iowa State the lead with her win. She beat Isabel Pascual 6-3, 6-3 on the No. 3 court.
Jade Otway tied it up for TCU. She won a close match against No. 72 senior Anna Supapitch Kuearum 7-5, 6-3 on the top court.
After Otway’s win, it was all Horned Frogs. Tsai eked out a victory over freshman Cristina Ramos Sierra 6-4, 7-5 on the fourth court.
Main sealed the match with her win over Ramirez. She won 6-3, 7-6 on the No. 5 court.
The Cyclones lost a close match that saw them lead, even though they dropped the doubles point. On the bright side for Iowa State, Camblor and Alberto Vilar have continued their strong individual seasons. They are 9-3 and 8-2 in singles, respectively.
Iowa State looks to bounce back in its Utah road trip. They play BYU at 1 p.m. Thursday in Provo.
