The Ames Figure Skating Club (AFSC) is putting on their 32nd annual performance at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 26 and 2 p.m. Sunday, April 27 at the Ames Ice Arena. The entirety of AFSC has been working to prepare for the show, which will include all participants in the club.
AFSC is a figure skating club in Ames that involves all ages and figure skating levels. Anyone is encouraged to join and be guided through their Learn to Skate program upon entry.
“We love figure skating and we want to see it thrive in our local community,” Jamie Sass, current communications chair of the club, said.
The show involves current skaters and alumni skaters. The members of the AFSC have put hours of work into making this show come to life and the final product is rewarding for everyone involved.
Each year the AFSC performance has a specific theme. The year’s show, entitled “Take a Bow,” is a tribute to the retirement of Traci Kepley.
Kepley has been a long-term member of AFSC and show director for the past 15 years of production. As a tribute to her service to the club and recognition for her work, AFSC is putting on a unique show.
“Take a Bow” will pull on the threads of the last 14 shows Kepley has incorporated and includes snippets of many classic movies and long term stories. There will be spotlights, costumes, makeup, fancy lights and everything in between.
“Not very many people are figure skaters, it’s kind of like dancing on ice,” said Sass. “Take the chance and go see something you don’t ordinarily see.”
You do not want to miss this unforgettable performance in Ames. Each show will be about two hours long. Tickets are available for purchase online for $11 for adults and $6 for students, or $10 and $5 respectively at the door.
