There’s more to life than sports, and the Iowa State football team provided a reminder of that on Saturday.

Thursday afternoon, a strong tornado hit downtown Marshalltown, Iowa, causing catastrophic damage to the community. Along with the devastation came an outpouring of support from the surrounding area in all forms.

(By the way, they still got out the paper the next day.)

Friday night, Iowa State running back David Montgomery sent out a single Tweet stating that he was “Honored to be able to go to Marshalltown tomorrow and help clean up.”

It wasn’t just Montgomery, though. The entire Iowa State football team showed up in Marshalltown on Saturday to help with the cleanup process and interact with community members.

Head Coach Matt Campbell was also there, helping with the cleanup effort alongside his players. The Cyclone players were seen helping with tree damage, picking up branches and pushing moving tree trunks to the side as a unit.

Multiple Marshalltown residents expressed their appreciation for the Cyclones’ efforts and selfless service to a hurting community.

Players (former and current) also expressed their happiness in helping the Marshalltown community.
