Iowa State has a competitive table tennis club that competes through the National Collegiate Table Tennis Association (NCTTA).
The president of the club, Josh Wu, is a junior majoring in kinesiology and health. The team has had individuals place highly at nationals in recent years, and the team is always looking for new members. All skill levels are encouraged to join the club, which fields multiple teams, including a women’s team, if numbers allow.
“Always excited to go out and compete, and most importantly, having fun,” Wu said.

Competitions
The team will head to Iowa City for the NCTTA Midwest Regional hosted by the University of Iowa.
The schools competing against Iowa State and Iowa include Illinois, Washington University in St. Louis, Indiana, Ohio State, Minnesota, the University of Chicago, Wisconsin, Northwestern and Kentucky.
Iowa State will be bringing nine members of the club to compete.
“Y’all winning the [championship] this year, I believe,” former club member Theodore Thayib said.
The members will enter the event as heavy underdogs. Iowa State is ranked second-to-last in NCTTA Team Strength in the event, leading only Kentucky.
Chakraborty is a former professional from India and won the constellation bracket at NCTTA nationals last year.
Wang also made an appearance in the consolation quarterfinal at the NCTTA nationals as well.
The 2026 National Collegiate Table Tennis Championships competition will take place in Rockford, Illinois, for the second consecutive year in 2026. Over 250 student-athletes from over 50 colleges and universities will have the opportunity to compete in the event.
The competition will take place at the UW Health Sports Factory beginning April 10 and going through April 12.
“My goal is to make it to nationals as a team,” Hsu said. “In that spirit, I look forward to beating Minnesota.”
