Two Student Government candidates were listed in a reported election violation during the current StuGov election cycle, according to the StuGov general election website.
Josie Kelly, a junior majoring in agricultural and rural policy studies and a candidate for president, and Henry Rose, a junior majoring in agricultural studies, were named as suspects in the violation.
This is the second reported violation in the StuGov election cycle; see the previous ISU Daily reporting.
The alleged violation cites section 7.1 of the Election Code. Section 7.1 requires that endorsements must be filed with and approved by the election commissioner before they can be claimed by a slate or campaign, according to the document.
At this time, the allegations remain under review, and no determination has been made regarding whether a violation has occurred.
In a statement provided by the Kelly and Rose campaign, the candidates acknowledged an error related to the endorsement filing process.
According to the statement, “We acknowledge a mistake in how one of our endorsements was filed. There was a miscommunication between our team and the election commission, but after further conversations, everything has been clarified and the correct information has been submitted on behalf of the Kelly Rose team.”
