Following a ninth-place finish at the Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina, the Cyclone divers will hold the spotlight as they travel to Texas for the NCAA Zone Diving Qualifications.
Iowa State will compete with many other divers who have seen success in the multitude of diving events during the regular season. The event will feature the one and 3-meter dive, platform diving, and a team diving event. These events will all take place over a span of three days, March 9, 10 and 11.
The Cyclones will bring six total divers on the ride down to College Station. They will bring sophomore Maggie Bendell, senior Ally Blumenfeld, freshman Jade Hazes, senior Kate Mitchell, freshman Iona Moffat, and sophomore Abby Tollefson.
Bendell
Bendell has had some fantastic dives this season, especially as of late. In the last timeout, Bendell put up a great performance in the 1-meter dive at the Big 12 Championship prelims, achieving a score of 291.60 and becoming an A finalist.
Bendell will look to replicate her performance from the last meet. Bendell has also qualified for a zone cut in the 1-meter dive and was a B finalist at the last meet. Bendell is set to compete in both the 1-meter dive and 3-meter dive at College Station.
Blumenfeld
The next diver will be Blumenfeld, a diver who has brought consistency throughout the season and had some great dives in Greensboro. Blumenfeld was a B finalist in both the 3-meter dive and platform diving. She will look to have a strong meet, competing in the 1-meter, 3-meter and platform diving.
Hazes
The freshman Hazes was able to achieve a zone cut in both the 3-meter and 1-meter diving events early in the season and has shown promising talent as a freshman. Hazes will join Bendell in competing in the 1 and 3-meter diving events in Texas, and will hope to continue to show her talent off.
Mitchell
The other senior competing in the Diving Zone Qualifiers is Mitchell, who has been strong as of late in almost every aspect of diving events. In her last meet, she had great dives in the prelims, qualifying for the B finals for all three diving events. Mitchell finished strong against top competition in the B finals, placing top four in the B finals for the 3-meter dive and the platform diving.
Mitchell hopes to show her versatility at this meet in College Station, as she will be in the 1-meter, 3-meter and platform diving events.
Moffat
Another talented freshman joining the other Cyclone divers is Moffat, who had a great diving showcase earlier in the season, where she got a zone cut in the 3-meter dive with a score of 294.40 and also got a zone cut in the 1-meter dive early this season as well. Moffat will join her teammates in competing in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives in Texas.
Tollefson
Tollefson has given some great depth for Iowa State throughout the season thus far. Tollefson specializes in the 1-meter dive and will look to prove herself on the big stage against some of the top divers in the nation.
