The Iowa State track and field team competed in its first outdoor meets of 2026 on Saturday.
The Cyclones looked to kick things into gear as a split squad, attending both the Clyde Hart Classic in Waco, Texas, hosted by Baylor University and the Central College Dutch Invitational in Pella, Iowa, hosted by Central College.
The Cyclones will continue their outdoor season with another split squad at the Bobcat Invite in San Marcos, Texas, from April 2–4, the UCSD Triton Invite in La Jolla, California, from April 3–4 and the Stanford Invite in Stanford, California, also from April 3–4.
Five top-10 school performances
Iowa State set five top-10 school performances, with four coming at the Clyde Hart Classic and one at the Central College invite. Zola N’Douma-Mona recorded a personal best in the women’s 100-meter hurdles prelims with a time of 13.65, tying the seventh-best time in school history.
In the men’s 110-meter hurdles finals, Daylin Williams posted a time of 13.84, good for the sixth-best time in school history, while Alec Carr tied his personal record for the seventh-best time in Iowa State history.
In the women’s 4×100-meter relay, Riyah Burns, Karynne David, Emma Havighurst and Rachel Joseph combined for a time of 45.34, the third-best time in school history.
Candra King was the lone Cyclone at the Central College Invite to record a top-10 performance, setting a personal best in the women’s hammer throw with a distance of 63.19 meters, the third-best mark in school history.
Multiple personal records for the Cyclones
In addition to those performances, the Cyclones recorded seven more personal records.
Grayson Hartman was the only other Cyclone at the Clyde Hart Classic to set a personal record, posting a time of 14.20 in the men’s 110-meter hurdles prelims.
At the Central invite, Kamari Brown set a personal record in the women’s hammer throw with a distance of 57.29 meters.
In the men’s hammer throw, Nathan Rotherham recorded a personal best of 54.58 meters, while Lucas Morrison followed with a personal best of 54.02 meters.
In the men’s discus, Kole Becker recorded a personal-best throw of 48.62 meters. He also competed in the men’s javelin, setting a personal record of 58.43 meters and in the men’s 100-meter dash, where he posted a personal-best time of 11.07 seconds.
Plethora of podium finishes
The Cyclones finished with four podium placements at the Clyde Hart Classic. In the women’s long jump, Sydney Willits placed third with a distance of 6.33 meters.
Williams’ top-10 performance of 13.84 seconds earned him third in the men’s 110-meter hurdles. The women’s 4×100-meter relay team also placed third with its time of 45.34. Ava Cinnamo added another podium finish, placing second in the women’s triple jump with a distance of 12.07 meters.
The Central invite saw stronger placements for the Cyclones.
In the women’s hammer throw, King finished first with a throw of 63.19 meters, while Brown placed second with a throw of 57.29 meters.
In the men’s hammer throw, Zach Verzani recorded a distance of 62.39 meters to take first and Garret Wagner followed with a throw of 61.17 meters for second.
In the men’s discus, Brandon Fischer won with a throw of 54.59 meters, while Daniel Norris placed third with a distance of 52.03 meters.
In the women’s discus, Betty Rosvold recorded a throw of 46.92 meters to claim first place.
In the men’s javelin, Becker’s throw of 58.43 meters earned him first place.
