After a rocky start to the tournament, former Iowa State golfers Jon Petersen and Ned Zachar looked to bounce back Friday in the second round of the U.S. Senior Open at the East Course at Broadmoor Country Club.

Petersen started off his round with pars on the first and second hole but would go on to post 5-over-par on the next five holes. Petersen finished off the front nine with two pars to give him a score of 5-over-par for the front nine.

Petersen would post a bogey, par and birdie on holes 10 through 12. He posted par on the next two holes but would find trouble on 15 and 16, going 3-over-par on those two holes.

To finish his round, Petersen bogeyed hole 17 and parred hole 18, bringing his score to 9-over-par for the round and 19-over-par for the tournament.

Zachar had a solid start with two pars to begin his round, but bogeyed the next three holes. He birdied the par-four 6th hole but double-bogeyed the next two holes and finished the front nine with a score of 6-over-par 41.

Zachar began the second nine with pars on holes 10 and 11. On holes 12 through 15, Zachar posted a double-bogey, two bogeys and a par.

Zachar went on to finish at 11-over-par 81, falling to 19-over-par for the tournament.

Petersen and Zachar are currently tied for 142nd. The top 60 golfers and ties will make the cut and play this weekend.
