For most players in the Cap City League, this an opportunity to make a name for themselves locally. this is especially true for the Sparta Waste Services team.

With the team’s first pick in the Iowa State round of the draft, Sparta Waste Services selected Iowa State standout Lindell Wigginton. Wigginton worked out for multiple NBA teams in the past few months, but thought it would be best for him to stay in school.

The bad news for Sparta Waste Services is that Wigginton has told reporters that he likely won’t play in the Cap City League this year.

The other Cyclone that was selected by Sparta Waste Services, was George Conditt. Conditt, a 6-foot-11 205 pound center, is a member of the Puerto Rican U18 Men’s Basketball Team. He is currently competing at the FIBA Americas U18 Championship in Canada for Puerto Rico.

Conditt has played very well at the tournament, averaging 10.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game. Conditt is likely to miss the first Cap City game because the last game of the Americas tournament was Saturday, and the first Cap City game is Sunday night.

In the Drake rounds, Sparta Waste Services selected two guards, D.J. Wilkins and Noah Thomas.

Wilkins, a 6-foot-2 sophomore from Merrillville, Indiana, spent last season at Florida Southwestern State. In high school, Wilkins made the all-conference team three times, was a two-time state honoree and a 2016 McDonald’s All-American honoree.

Thomas averaged 3.6 points per game last year in 34 games. The 6-foot-2 Australian averaged 12.6 minutes a game last season, and will likely play a larger role for the Bulldogs this upcoming season.

The first player selected in the open round was former Iowa Central and Southwestern Community College guard Malachi Canada. In his last season, he played for Southwestern and 5.4 points per game while shooting 63.4 percent from the field.

Joining Canada on the Sparta Waste Services team is former teammate Khalid Edwards. Edwards, a 5-foot-8 point guard, averaged 13.3 points a game and shot 44.8 percent from the field.

Two DMACC Bears will be suiting up for the Sparta Wastes Service team: sophomore guards Devonta Prince and DeShawn Davidson.

Prince averaged 5.4 points per game while shooting 50.8 percent from the field, while Davidson 8.0 points per game while shooting 43.4 percent from the field.

Rounding out the Sparta Waste Services roster is former Norwalk standout and St. Cloud State commit Daniel Geistler and Jack Dutton who is currently unsigned.
