Iowa State basketball player Cameron Lard has entered a wellness center off-campus, per a release from the Iowa State athletic department on Monday.

The wellness center is focused on “helping individuals build a balanced and structured lifestyle.”

“Cam needs to change some personal habits and he knows that,” said Iowa State basketball coach Steve Prohm in the release. “Our priority is, and should be, to help our kids reach their potentials for the long term.”

Lard will be away from campus over the summer, but he plans to return to Ames after completion of the program.

“With the help of everyone here, I can assure you that I’m making some positive changes and (developing) better habits,” Lard texted Prohm this week, according to the release.

Lard averaged 12.6 points per game in his first active season at Iowa State.

Assisting Lard is Prohm and his mother, Belinda.

“Cam has been open to improving as a person and desiring to make better decisions,” Prohm said in a release. “I’m so proud of him for taking ownership on becoming the best Cam he can be. There is a very bright future for him if he matures as a young man.”

Prohm and Belinda talked in the spring about Lard and the wellness program. Prohm and Belinda communicated through the process, and the two are on the same page.

“Words can’t express my appreciation for what Iowa State and Coach Prohm are doing for my son,” Belinda said in the release. “They care about Cam as a young man and that means the world to me.”
