The City of Ames is looking for new ways to make sure its city planning is as efficient and consistent as possible.

On Monday, the city will be hosting an open house at the Ames Public Library in the Farewell T. Brown Auditorium  from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. to continue discussion of the “complete streets” plan.

Last year was the first time the city had looked into ways to normalize city planning for future use.

According to a press release from the City of Ames, three things contributed to their plans.

“A technical committee representing several disciplines including engineering, traffic engineering, community planning, operations, maintenance, and transit; A community representative committee including community organizations and Iowa State University; and Public input through online surveys at www.CityOfAmes.org/completestreets.”

Through this process, the city came up with eight new classifications for streets and will help future development or redevelopment of the Ames street network. According to their press release, the city hopes this will “allow everyone to safely and conveniently travel across the community.”

The “complete streets” plan will also include goals to help “multimodal needs, updated street design parameters, and plan implementation strategies.”
