Iowa State assistant coach Neill Berry will join Shaka Smart and the Texas Longhorns basketball program. Texas announced Berry’s departure from Iowa State in a press release.

Berry joined Steve Prohm’s staff as a special assistant before being promoted to an assistant coach in May 2016.

Prior to his time at Iowa State, Berry spent three years with High Point University as an assistant. Berry also has spent time with South Carolina and Western Kentucky.

“I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to join Coach Smart’s staff at Texas,” Berry said in a release. “I have loved my time working for Coach Prohm at Iowa State.

“It was going to take a special opportunity to leave Iowa State, and I think Texas is that opportunity.”

Berry’s connection with Prohm goes back to Berry’s collegiate playing career. Prohm coached Berry for five seasons, while Berry was a guard with Southeastern Louisiana.

On the recruiting trail, Berry was the lead recruiter for Lindell Wigginton and Tyrese Haliburton.
