Iowa State added some much-needed depth at 125 when Charlie Klepps committed to the Cyclones, according to 406 MT SPORTS.

Klepps won his fourth state title at 132 pounds this year, but he projects to compete at 125 in college.

Currently, Iowa State has Rutgers transfer Alex Mackall along with Jakob Allison and Sinjin Briggs, who both walked-on to the team last season.

In his senior season, Klepps compiled a 42-3 record, adding to his 164-18 career record.

Iowa State has multiple Montana connections, as 2018 NCAA qualifier Jarrett Degen is from Belgrade, Montana, and associate head coach Mike Zadick is a native of Great Falls, Montana.

Not only did the Montana connects lure Klepp to committing, but Iowa State’s academics played a role in the decision, too.

“It has a good journalism school,” Klepps told 406 MT SPORTS. “And that’s what I’m interested in. Mike [Zadick] will care about the Montana kids. I think it’s a really good fit.”

Klepps told 406 MT SPORTS that he plans on redshirting in his first season in Ames due to undergoing shoulder surgery this summer.
