Melodime brings alt rock to m-shop

Visiting the M-Shop on Thursday, April 5 at 8 p.m. is up and coming, award-winning alternative rock band from Northern VA, Melodime. The musical group is made up of Brad Rhodes (lead vocals, guitar), brothers Sammy (piano, bass) and Tyler Duis (drums), and Jon Wiley (guitar, background vocals).

Melodime started back in 2005 and has since put out a number of singles, four studio albums and three music compilations. They started to gain attention after winning Washington DC’s well-known Battle of the Bands and having their song “Sweet Contentment” played on the popular dance competition show, So You Think You Can Dance.

They released their latest song, Wherever You Go on YouTube in December of the past year. Their latest official single, “Little Thing Called Love” was released in June 2016 and has been incredibly well received by their fans and positively reviewed by publications such as The Washington Post and Tune Collective.

Although the band currently plays well over 125 shows a year and have penned and performed numerous songs and records that have scored No. 1 or have gone platinum, Melodime stays humble while making it a priority to keep others in mind.

Their latest album, “Where Sinners and Saints Collide” came out in September of 2014 and launched their ongoing “Make an album, change a life” campaign. It is also important to note that this album was fully funded by their loyal fan base. Through the campaign, the band donates the profits from album sales to their non-profit foundation Now I Play Along Too, which provides musical instruments for underprivileged children globally.

Melodime’s music tells stories that pours out from their hearts and souls through a combination of heartfelt lyrics, catchy guitar riffs and choruses. The band terms the music they play as “southern fusion.” This is notable through the additions of acoustic guitar and banjo in many of their songs. Blending this with piano melodies and a little bit of rock and roll from the electric guitar that breathes energy into their music, gives the band a unique take on the classic country sound.

Tickets are $8 for ISU students and $10 for the public. Tickets can be purchased at the M-Shop box office or online via Midwestix.com.
