Cyclones swept by Longhorns

In the top of the first with two outs, Brianna Weilbacher gave up a grand slam to Kaitlyn Washington to give the Longhorns a 4-0 lead. Weilbacher continued to struggle in the first inning but got out of it and returned to pitch in the third inning. 

The Cyclones threatened with bases loaded and two out in the bottom of the second inning. Iowa State failed to score after a questionable strike three.

In the top of the third a two-out RBI single from Janae Jefferson extended the Longhorns lead to 5-0.

In the bottom of the fourth the Cyclones finally got on board. A two-run home run from Sally Woolpert scored Nychole Antillon. Woolpert had a double in the inning before.

The Cyclones stayed hot in the fourth inning. A double from Kaylee Bosworth and then an RBI single from Jackie Chairez cut the Longhorns lead to 5-3. 

Continuing to score, the Longhorns had a pitching change and replaced Erica Wright for Brooke Bolinger with two outs in the bottom of the fifth. Bolinger escaped the inning with a strikeout to Stites. The Cyclones left two stranded.

Washington hit her second home run of the game against Weilbacher in the top of the fifth. It was a solo home run to left center and it extended the Longhorns’ lead to 6-3. Savannah Sanders would enter to pitch for Weilbacher. 

In the fifth inning again the Longhorns added another run after a RBI single. The score was 7-3 Longhorns.

In the top of the sixth inning the Longhorns added three more runs. A three-run home run from Kaitlyn Slack extended the Texas lead to 10-3. 

Logan Schaben led off the bottom of the sixth inning with a triple. She would score on a sacrifice fly from Bryn Hanrahan. The score was 10-4.

In the top of the seventh the Longhorns added another run to make the score 11-4.

The Cyclones could not stop the sweep and fell to the Longhorns 11-4.
