Iowa State defeats Mercer 4-1

Senior Samantha Budai played for Iowa State Tennis on April 23. This was the final home match for Budai. She earned the first-ever national ranking by a Cyclone tennis player.

The Iowa State Cyclones defeated the Mercer Bears 4-1 this afternoon at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center in DeLand, Florida.

The Cyclones put on a dominant performance in singles, winning four of the six matches. 

Iowa State also played very well in doubles winning two out of the three matches. The only reason they did not win the third is because Freeman/Bonadonna’s match went unfinished against Sidor/Mottet (MER).

Singles:

No. 1: Maty Cancini was defeated by Katie Sidor (MER) 0-6, 4-6. 

No. 2: Regina Espindola defeated Celine Schepers (MER) 6-4, 6-4.

No. 3: Ekaterina Repina defeated Marie Mottet (MER) 6-4, 6-4.

No. 4: Erin Freeman faced off against Grace Korta (MER) and their match went unfinished.

No. 5: Margarita Timakova faced Lucia Gutierrez (MER) and their match also went unfinished.

No. 6: Annabella Bonadonna defeated Maeva Roquebert (MER) 6-4, 6-1.

Doubles:

No. 1: Cancini/Espindola defeated Korta/Schepers (MER) 6-4.

No. 2: Freeman/Bonadonna faced off against Sidor/Mottet (MER), but their match went unfinished.

No. 3: Repina/Timakova defeated Gutierrez/Cesarini (MER) 6-3.

Next up for the Cyclones will be the Iowa Hawkeyes on March 7 at 4 p.m. in Ames, Iowa.
