The opening round of the Hootie at Bulls Bay began earlier this morning, and Iowa State is off to a commanding start.

The Cyclones finished up round one tied for second place along with Ole Miss, Kent State, and Kentucky. After round one, Iowa State is the only team in the top five who is not ranked in the top 50 by Golfstat. Cyclones scored 281 which leaves them shooting seven under, today.

The tournament’s three-time consecutive champions, South Carolina, shot even and is tied for 10th place. South Carolina may seem down and out, but there is still a lot of golf to be played.

On the individual side, two Cyclones are currently in the top five spots. Freshman Lachlan Barker is tied for second place shooting a 68 leaving him at four under par. Just behind Barker is sophomore Tripp Kinney tied with eight others in fourth place. Kinney scored a 69 after the opening round shot three under par.

Iowa State starts up round two Monday from 8-8:40 a.m. CT.
