Iowa State falls to Iowa 5-2 in Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series

Senior Natalie Phippen played for Iowa State Tennis on April 23. Phippen has been a member of the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll and an ISU Scholar-Athlete. She fell 0-6, 0-4 during her match against Katarina Stresnakova of OSU.

Iowa State was defeated by the Iowa Hawkeyes 5-2 at home in an Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series.

The Cyclones could only capture two wins in singles. Margarita Timakova won in singles this afternoon, winning 6-2 and 6-3 against Adorabol Huckleby at the No. 5 spot. At the No. 3 position Ekaterina Repina went up against Zoe Douglas. Repina won 3-1.

Cancini faced Yufei Long at the No. 1 position and the match went into three sets. Cancini ended losing the match, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. Regina Espindola, who played at the No. 2 position, went up against Elise Van Heuvelen, Espindola was defeated 6-4, 6-2.

Erin Freeman competed against Anastasia Reimchen, but also lost 6-1, 6-2. Annabella Bonadonna’s match also went into three competitive sets, as she went up against Montana Crawford in No. 6 singles. Bonadonna was defeated 6-7, 6-2, 6-2.

No. 1: Maty Cancini was defeated by Yufei Long (IOWA), 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.

No. 2: Regina Espindola was defeated by Elise Van Heuvelen (IOWA), 6-4, 6-2.

No. 3: Ekaterina Repina defeated Zoe Douglas (IOWA), 3-1, Ret.

No. 4: Erin Freeman was defeated by Anastasia Reimchen (IOWA), 6-1, 6-2.

No. 2: Freeman/Bonadonna was defeated by Heuvelen/Reimchen (IOWA) 7-5.

No. 3: Repina/Timakova and Huckleby/Crawford (IOWA) went unfinished.

Saturday, March 10, Iowa State will look to bounce back and get a victory against Wyoming. The match will be in Laramie, Wyoming, and will begin at 11 a.m.
