Funding will dominate the Student Government meeting Wednesday evening with nearly $16,000 in requests from student organizations.

Those requests include:

  • $1,960 to Sigma Alpha Pi to attend a conference in Kansas City,
  • $2,106 to the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship for a conference in Kansas,
  • $250 to GENRE to host a show at Morning Bell Coffee Roasters,
  • $1,490 to Cyclone Rocketry for to attend a competition in New Mexico,
  • $360 to Alpha Pi Omega to attend a conference in Iowa City,
  • $1,343 to the Agricultural Education and Collegiate FFA Chapter to attend a convention in Texas, and
  • $2,500 to the African Students Association to host African Night in April.

As for new business, that will run through first read during Wednesday’s meeting and will be discussed and voted upon next week, is a bill that if enacted would adjust the senate technology policy.

Currently, senators are prohibited to use their computers or digital devices for personal activities, such as homework or texting, according to Student Government bylaws.

The bill to be discussed next week asks that this be struck from the bylaws.

“The technology policy in the bylaws cannot be enforced evenly, and this allows for discriminatory enforcement and favoritism,” the bill reads. “It would be best to change the technology policy so that it cannot be unethically abused for personal ends.”
