Iowa State (13-15, 4-12 Big 12) was short-handed heading into its game at West Virginia (21-8, 10-6 Big 12), and it showed. The Mountaineers pulled away for a 85-70 win, dropping the Cyclones to 4-12 in conference play.

Iowa State started fairly strong. Freshman Terrence Lewis earned his first start of the season and hit a 3-pointer early. He tallied seven points in the first half.

The Cyclones were led in the scoring column by freshman guard Lindell Wigginton. Wigginton scored 12 of Iowa State’s 30 points in the first half, but West Virginia led, 39-30.

Cameron Lard had just two points before halftime. He also had eight rebounds.

After halftime, the Mountaineers extended their lead.

Wigginton got into foul trouble and was forced to go to the bench less than seven minutes into the half. He re-entered later in the half and scored four straight points to bring the deficit down to 11, but it wasn’t enough.

Wigginton wracked up a team-high 29 points, just one point shy of his career-high mark. Iowa State couldn’t crawl back, however, and fell by 15.
