Iowa State entered Friday night still searching for its first dual win.

The Cyclones remained winless, losing to the Northern Colorado Bears 22-20.

The action began with redshirt junior heavyweight Marcus Harrington. After an aggressive start, Harrington cruised to a 9-4 win.

Sophomore 125-pounder Jakob Allison found himself next for the Cyclones. Allison struggled in the first and second periods, but the walk-on did what he does best in the final period.

Trailing 6-1 with over a minute of riding time against him, Allison rode out Northern Colorado’s Sean Cannon, eliminating the riding time point. Cannon gave up a stalling point, as well, but the Bears still received three team points with a 6-2 win at 125.

Redshirt sophomore 133-pounder Markus Simmons found his name on the starting lineup for the first time this season.

Simmons failed to capitalize on the opportunity, losing 9-1. Meanwhile, the Bears took a 7-3 team lead over Iowa State.

At 141-pounds, redshirt freshman Kanen Storr rattled off a couple late takedowns to win 11-5. Storr’s opponent, Ben Polkowske, limited Storr to only a decision, preserving the Bears lead.

The Cyclones were 2-2, but Iowa State was lacking bonus points. Redshirt freshman 149-pounder Jarrett Degen fixed that problem.

Degen dominated Northern Colorado’s Jimmy Fate, earning a 21-6 technical fall. The Cyclones took an 11-7 lead at intermission.

After the intermission, redshirt sophomore Chase Straw kept the momentum going, grinding out a 6-2 decision.

Redshirt junior 165-pounder Logan Breitenbach competed in a roller coaster of a match. Breitenbach was nearly pinned, but the redshirt junior recovered and nearly earned a pin himself.

In the second period, Breitenbach failed to avoid the pin, cutting Iowa State’s lead to 14-13.

At 174-pounds, the Bears took the lead. Redshirt junior Danny Bush wasn’t able to build any offense, losing 2-0.

Behind 16-14, Iowa State leaned on redshirt senior Dane Pestano. Pestano’s opponent Dylan Gabel managed to pin Pestano with 12 seconds left in the third period.

With the Cyclones losing 22-14 and facing defeat, the only match left was 197-pounds. Redshirt freshman Sam Colbray won by injury default after falling behind 7-3.

Iowa State wrestles Oregon State at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Hilton Coliseum.
