Cyclones upset No. 15 West Virginia, 93-77

Iowa State (12-9, 3-6 Big 12) pulled off a big upset over No. 15 West Virginia (16-6, 5-4 Big 12), by a final score of 93-77.

Iowa State jumped out to an early 14-6 lead, thanks to a pair of 3-pointers from senior guard Donovan Jackson.

Without starting point guard Nick Weiler-Babb, Iowa State had to rely on freshman Lindell Wigginton to run the point. He tallied two assists on fast breaks in the first four minutes.

The Cyclones used a 13-3 run to take a 23-9 lead with just under 13 minutes to play in the first half.

But, the Mountaineers battled back. After hitting seven of eight shots in one stretch, West Virginia brought it back and tied it at 29-all just after the under-8 timeout in the first half.

Iowa State led 53-43 at the halftime break, thanks to a 67 percent shooting performance (20-for-30). 

Jackson and Wigginton led with 17 and 12 points, respectively. Jackson also tied a career-high in the first half with six assists.

The Cyclones kept it up in the second half. West Virginia called a timeout after a short Iowa State run extended the lead to 12 with 15:32 to play.

Iowa State maintained a steady lead for much of the second half, and extended it to as much as 20.

Jackson led the team with 25 points. Wigginton added 22. Cameron Lard posted 18 points and 13 rebounds.

Next up for the Cyclones is a matchup at Baylor on Saturday.
