Baylor runs Iowa State out of Hilton Coliseum

The Baylor women’s basketball team is good at basketball. In fact, the No. 4 Bears (16-1, 6-0 Big 12) are very good.

Iowa State (8-10, 2-5 Big 12) learned that — for the second time this season — on Wednesday night when the Bears shellacked the Cyclones 79-50.

Baylor’s star center Kalani Brown paced the Bears as they jumped out to a 19-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Bears also utilized Lauren Cox’s size as she swatted three Cyclone shots.

Cox added three more blocks by halftime and the Bears were ahead 40-19 after 20 minutes. Bridget Carleton paced the Cyclones with 12 points in the first two quarters, but the Cyclones shot just 17.6 percent to start the first half of the game.

However, the Cyclones showed signs of life in the third quarter as they outscored the Bears 17-14. But they were still down 18 at the end of the third quarter.

The fourth quarter followed a similar trend as the Cyclones continued to show fight, but couldn’t muster up a run big enough to put them back into the game.

Iowa State ended the game shooting 25 percent from the field. Brown recorded a game-high 25 points. Cox finished the game with nine blocks.

The Cyclones return to Hilton Coliseum on Saturday to face No. 17 West Virginia at 6:30 p.m.
