Cyclones upset No. 8 Texas Tech

Iowa State (10-7, 1-5 Big 12) knocked off No. 8 Texas Tech (15-3, 4-2 Big 12) by a final score of 70-52.

Iowa State jumped out to a 14-4 lead within the first few minutes.

Redshirt freshman forward Cameron Lard was the star in the early portion of the game. By the second media timeout at the 11:02 mark in the first half, Lard had a game-high 10 points and two blocks as the Cyclones took a 19-10 lead.

The Cyclones used an 8-0 run to extend the lead to 31-18 with 4:19 to go in the first half, forcing Texas Tech to call a timeout.

Iowa State took a 33-25 lead into the halftime break, thanks in large part to Lard’s 14 points. He was 7-of-8 from the floor in the first half.

In the second half, Texas Tech came out hot.

The Red Raiders scored the first six points of the second half, trimming Iowa State’s lead to two points in less than two minutes.

Iowa State used an 11-1 run to take a 45-36 lead at the under-12 media timeout.

A Zoran Talley Jr. 3-pointer extended the Cyclone lead to 14 points a few minutes later.

Iowa State used a run where it went 6-for-6 to extend the lead to as much as 20. Lard led Iowa State with 18 points as the Cyclones pulled away.

The Cyclones will play next at Texas on Monday, January 22.
