“Blade Runner 2049”

“Blade Runner 2049” took us beyond the sprawl of futuristic Los Angeles in both time and place and showed us more of this fascinating world. Like its predecessor, the visuals are beautiful in color and the biggest strength of the film. This time around, the visuals are much more expansive than the claustrophobic Los Angeles we saw in the first film.

The storyline centers around Ryan Gosling’s Officer K, who has a stoic personality that belongs perfectly in this bleak and unforgiving world. “Blade Runner 2049” moves in an unhurried paced. Denis Villeneuve did a nice job capturing a lot of the atmospheric aspects of the first film. There are a few twists and turns which make up a complex storyline that would make Philip K. Dick proud.

As a sequel, it kept true to the first “Blade Runner,” but it was also adequately unique and able to advance the series in a captivating way.
