In a recent development, redshirt freshman Daniel Vega, a 125-pounder, has departed from the wrestling team.

Vega’s departure comes in the wake of a recent suspension as a result of a violation of team rules. Vega missed last weekend’s Harold Nichols Cyclone Open and would also be suspended for this week’s coming dual against Drexel, according to coach Kevin Dresser.

Vega was in a battle to find the starter at 125 between himself and redshirt junior Jonathan Marmolejo.

Marmolejo won’t be wrestling against Drexel as well, leaving only true sophomore Jakob Allison.

In high school, Vega was a three-time Arizona State Champion, a two-time Fargo freestyle national champion and a three-time folkstyle national champion. Coming out of high school, Vega was ranked the No. 45 overall wrestler in his class per FloWrestling.

In his first year at Iowa State, Vega finished with a 14-7 record while wrestling unattached as a redshirt.
