Iowa State football showcases 20 players in Big 12 awards

Iowa State football finished the season 7-5 overall and 5-4 in the Big 12. Due to this unexpected success from the 2016 to 2017 season, Iowa State had a handful of players that earned Big 12 awards after the end of the regular season. 

Senior wide receiver Allen Lazard, senior safety Kamari Cotton-Moya and sophomore running back David Montgomery were named First-Team All-Big 12.

The Second-Team All-Big 12 consisted of senior linebacker/quarterback Joel Lanning, senior defensive lineman J.D. Waggoner, senior offensive lineman Jake Campos, junior cornerback Brian Peavy and freshman tight end Chase Allen.

Along with first and second teams, Iowa State had a few players named as honorable mentions.

Those players include sophomore defensive end JaQuan Bailey, sophomore wide receiver Hakeem Butler, senior punter Colin Downing, sophomore offensive lineman Julian Good-Jones, junior linebacker Willie Harvey, senior quarterback Kyle Kempt, sophomore defensive lineman Ray Lima, senior kicker Garrett Owens, junior cornerback D’Andre Payne, senior wide receiver Trever Ryen, junior tight end Sam Seonbuchner and sophomore linebacker Marcel Spears.

Iowa State football will finish the 2017 season at a bowl game at the end of December. The Cyclones will find out their bowl game destination on Sunday at bowl selection day.
