Every week during the year, Brian Mozey, Aaron Marner, Jack MacDonald and a special guest make their predictions for the Iowa State football game. Here are their predictions for the No. 14 Cyclones’ week 10 game against West Virginia at 2:30 p.m. on ESPN2.

Brian Mozey, Sports Editor (5-3)

Winner: Iowa State

Score: 35-21

Iowa State is on a roll. After an impressive month of October, the Cyclones are looking to continue their success in November. That’ll start in West Virginia.

Iowa State’s defense will shut down Will Grier just like they kept TCU to seven points last Saturday. David Montgomery and Iowa State’s rushing attack will take center stage this Saturday as West Virginia’s front seven averages 205 rushing yards allowed per game this season.

The Iowa State offense will bounce back and dominate in the second half after being nonexistent in the past couple of games. The Cyclones will extend the win streak to five games.

Aaron Marner, Assistant Sports Editor (3-5)

Winner: West Virginia

Score: 28-24

Iowa State turned it up in October, but that doesn’t mean things are going to stay that way now that the calendar has flipped to November.

Four straight wins. Two wins over top-five ranked teams. It’s not hard to see why people are picking Iowa State to win in Morgantown, but I don’t buy it. This is a very strong Iowa State team, but even great teams lose on the road from time to time.

West Virginia is led by quarterback Will Grier, who has 28 touchdown passes in just eight games this season. Iowa State’s defense has been great over the last five games, but I think West Virginia will get a couple big plays Saturday and pull out the win.

Jack MacDonald, Assistant Sports Editor (4-4)

Winner: Iowa State

Score: 24-17

Let’s not forget I correctly picked the TCU upset (clap, clap). But another week is here and it’s another team with a high-powered offense. West Virginia has the hottest combo in college football with Will Grier and David Sills. Sills leads the nation with 15 touchdown receptions. In comparison, Allen Lazard leads the Iowa State receiving core with five touchdowns.

But Iowa State has its mighty defense on their side. In the past five quarters, the Cyclones’ defense has allowed zero offensive touchdowns and the only touchdown allowed against TCU was a kick return.

Time and time again Iowa State has faced a dangerous team, and time and time again they continue to win. With all the momentum in the world, I just don’t see them losing to a West Virginia team that gives up a ridiculous amount of points.

Parker Reed, Limelight Editor

Winner: West Virginia

Score: 31-24

What a month October was for Campell and Co. Coming off debatably the biggest win in program history is certainly a positive when looking at the Cyclones’ chances against the Mountaineers in Morgantown this weekend, let alone the four-game win streak behind them as well.

Unfortunately, I believe that this is where the Cyclones will run out of steam. Iowa State’s defense has been effective this season, generally keeping the competition to only a couple of touchdowns, but West Virginia’s high-scoring offense will reveal the holes that some teams haven’t been able to identify.

Iowa State will have a promising start, but once the second half rolls around West Virginia will run away with the lead, with a disgruntled Cyclone offense unable to catch back up.
